Why does it make such a difference if I replace my incandescent bulbs with compact fluorescent light bulbs (CFLs)? - If every household in American switched five regular bulbs for five CFLs, it would be the equivalent of taking 1 million cars off the roads for a full year. This would save 500 lbs. of CO2 and $100 a year on the individual’s electric bills. CFLs use one quarter the energy of a regular bulb, generate a lot less heat and last up to ten times longer.
