Climate Change and the decline of a cheap and abundant petroleum resource make it necessary for our society to transition to the use of renewable energy and refocus our activities to the local and regional level. CELL was formed in March of 2005 to educate the public about the pending pressures that Peak Oil will bring and to organize the community to create a safety net now, before the crunch hits.

Depending on whose scenario you want to believe, Peak Oil - when the demand for oil will outstrip supply - is expected to hit in 2 to 30 years. This does not mean that we are running out of oil completely at that point, but it does mean that the price for fuel will continually increase and negatively impact the economy – and you!

Climate Change, however, is already beginning to impact our lives. Monstrous hurricanes, freak tornadoes, relocation and loss of species, and unpredictable seasons, are some of the indications of a changing climate. It is essential that we begin to curb our carbon emissions immediately.

CELL is a non-profit under the umbrella of the Mendocino Environmental Center's 501(c)3 status.
